Action: catch the top of the jump

The layup, the jump shot, the rebound, the steal. Every jump has a moment where nothing moves, and that’s the frame.

How to shoot it
  1. Step 1

Shoot the peak, not the take-off

At the top of a jump shot the body stops for a moment. That’s where a phone gets a sharp photo in a dim gym. Start the burst on the take-off and hold it through the release.

  2. Step 2

Ball, hands and face in one frame

A photo with the ball out of frame is a kid in a gym. Wait for the hands on the ball and the eyes on the rim. Leave room above the head so the ball fits.

  3. Step 3

    Defense is action too

The block, the box-out, the hand in the passing lane. Keep following your player when the other team has the ball. A steal shot from the baseline is the photo nobody else has.

Burst from take-off to landing. The sharp frame is at the top.
