SIDELINE SCHOOL
Action: the top of the leap
The leap, the turn, the lift, the solo. Every leap has a moment where the dancer hangs in the air.
How to shoot it
- Step 1
Learn the routine first
Watch it once before you shoot. You’ll know where the leap happens, and you can frame that spot before they get there.
- Step 2
Burst through the peak
Start the burst on the take-off and hold it through the landing. The frame you keep is at the top, legs fully out.
- Step 3
Fill the frame with your dancer
Use the 2x or 3x button, not a pinch, and leave room for their arms. A wide shot of the whole stage belongs on the program cover. Your photo is of them.
Pro tip
No flash. Watch once, then frame the leap before it comes.
