SIDELINE SCHOOL
Where to sit: center, on the aisle
Ask the studio’s photo rules first. Then sit near the middle, a few rows back, at the end of a row.
How to shoot it
- Step 1
Ask about photos first
Many studios don’t allow photos or video during the show. Most allow them at dress rehearsal, with the same costumes and lights and far fewer heads in front of you.
- Step 2
Center, a few rows back, on the aisle
From the middle you see the formation the way it was made to be seen. An aisle seat lets you shoot without lifting the phone over anyone.
- Step 3
Stage light fools the phone
The stage is bright and the hall is dark, so the phone washes the dancers out. Tap a dancer, hold until it locks, then slide the brightness down a little.
Pro tip
Dress rehearsal is the shoot. The show is for watching.
