Where to stand: low, and ahead of the play
Flag fields are small and the sideline is close. Stand ahead of the ball and get down to their height.
How to shoot it
- Step 1
Stand ahead of the ball
Behind the play you shoot backs. Move along the sideline so you’re a few yards ahead of the ball, and the runner comes at you. Stay two big steps back from the line: a runner pushed out of bounds needs room to stop.
- Step 2
Get down to their height
From standing height you shoot the tops of small heads. Kneel and they look as big as the game feels to them.
- Step 3
Keep the sun behind you
Weekend mornings mean low sun. Stand with it behind you so it lights their faces, not the back of their jerseys.
Pro tip
One knee, a few yards ahead of the ball.
