Where to sit: follow the rotation
Find out which event your gymnast starts on, and sit where you can see that apparatus.
How to shoot it
- Step 1
Follow the rotation
Teams move from event to event through the meet. Ask the order and move with them, so you’re near beam when they’re on beam.
- Step 2
Pick the side for the event
Beam: from the end, level with the beam. Vault: from the side, level with the table. Floor: a corner, where the tumbling passes start and finish. Bars: from the side, for the release at the top.
- Step 3
No flash. Lock the exposure instead.
Flash can blind a gymnast in the middle of a skill, and meets don’t allow it. Tap your gymnast and hold to lock the exposure, so the bright arena doesn’t darken them.

Never use flash at a meet. Lock the exposure instead.
