SIDELINE SCHOOL

Get low. Then get lower.

Most photos at an event are taken standing up. Get the camera down to their height, and your kid becomes the hero.

How to shoot it
  1. Step 1

The camera should sit at their chest, or below

From high in the stands you look down on them. The front row, or a knee where spectators may stand, puts the camera at their height and the sky or the arena behind them. Stay out of the way of anyone mid-run, mid-dive or mid-routine.

  2. Step 2

Fill the frame with your kid

If you can read a sign behind them, you’re too far away. Use the 2x or 3x button, not a pinch, and leave a little space above the head.

  3. Step 3

    Hold still through the burst

Elbows in, phone in both hands, and burst through the moment. The one to keep is usually a few frames in, not the first.

Pro tip

Front row, phone at their height, both hands.

They only grow up once.
