Portrait: a media-day hero in 90 seconds

Full kit, plain background, chest height. This is the photo clubs actually need.

How to shoot it
  1. Step 1

Plain background, even light, chest height

A fence, a hedge, a shaded wall, an empty stand. Not a parking lot, not a crowded bench. Hold the phone at their chest — not above, not below — so the kit reads square. Golden hour or open shade; noon sun puts raccoon eyes under the brow.

  2. Step 2

    Leave space around them

Team-sheet graphics and roster cards need crop room on every side, plus a portrait and a landscape cut. Do not tight-crop at capture. Full Quality upload — compressed portraits are unusable for print.

  3. Step 3

Take three: hero, game face, the real grin

One serious (the media-day stare), one competitive, one with the missing tooth or the gap where the mouthguard was. The third is the one you will cry about. Ask them to look just over the camera, not into it, for the hero.

Pro tip

Golden hour, plain background, shoot from chest height.
